How much for a good bass?

I'm looking for a decent bass, and I do not already play, but I want to learn rock bass, and some of the bass in the older Green Day. The highest price I can afford is the 200th I have saved up 250, but I'm spending that on an amplifier. Any ideas? Oh. There is a business in my city (Tallahassee), which sells second-hand guitar (Andy's guitar) Is it safe to buy used?

Your best guess would be to check out eBay shops for some well rounded beginner basses. Unfortunately, you will not find any top of the line bass for a low price. Peavey, IBANEZ Dean and offer good, effective, affordable basses, used by stars from around the world. Peavey: John Campbell (Lamb of God) IBANEZ: mostly all Dean all other old Green Day bass lines can be quite difficult when you start out, namely "When I Come Around" and "Basket Case". maybe start with their newer stuff to find your footing and build your technique and control.
