Can I use my electric guitar amp for my new acoustic / electric guitar?

I just bought a new acoustic / electric guitar, and I thought on, I already have an amplifier for my electric guitar, I can connect my acoustic guitar to one or do I have to buy an acoustic amp?

You can play your instrument through a guitar amp. It will not sound very acoustic themselves. A regular guitar amplifier is designed to highlight the middle frequencies, where an electric guitar generally sounds best. Speakers (quite common 12 "speakers) in a guitar amplifier is designed with center frequencies of mind. An acoustic guitar is more of a full-range instrument, and that is why they sound better through a PA system (with full range speakers) or through a special acoustic amplifier, which often times have tweeters to bring more of the higher frequencies also.
