guitar amp standby switch
Standby switches are necessary on a small amp?

I have a small all tube Class A amp with EL84s. It did not come with a standby switch, and I was considering modding one on it, but I'm not sure if it is necessary for this amp. I usually let amp warm up by turning the volume on the guitar and amplifier all the way down and let it warm that way. Is this a sufficient way to let the tubes warm up? I'm not sure if I want to spend the money and be difficult, if not necessary. Thank you!

You're doing the right thing and basically the same thing as a standby button. Tubes become worn down by expansion and contraction as they heat up and cool down. As long as you understand by keeping the tubes warmed up instead of turning them off and on, you can prolong their lives.
