Books to learn to play guitar?

I have recently gotten more free time on my hands. One thing I regret is never learning a insturment. I want to start playing guitar. Are there any beginners books that anyone would recommend? (I am glad to learn the basics myself, then further to the actual lessons) also IM 25 is that too old to get an instrument and be proffecient?
