One of the difficulties in learning licks and riffs, is the speed that they are often played on. If you try to learn to play by ear, by listening to a recorded track, the notes go by so quickly that you can not possibly remember them all, or to get your fingers to the right notes at once.

The answer to this problem is to slow the absorption of riff or a lick that you are trying to learn and the way to achieve this, without changing the pitch and tempo, is to use one of the popular "slow music" computer software programs which can be downloaded to your computer. A search on "Google" will introduce you some good choices.
