Can you use PlayStation 3 controllers to play tion 2 version of Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s?

I have the 60GB PS3 and I tried to use my guitar hero 3 controller there is for PS3 for Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s and it would not work. Any help

No PS3 is stronger technology, so it wont work on PS2
