Is it possible to teach yourself / learn two instruments at once?

I'm turning 30 this year. I am a singer and songwriter, and I always wanted to be able to play instruments so I can be like a one woman band. I have a guitar and some books and DVD lessons and a niece who know how to play guitar to help me. I also have a keyboard, I unexpectedly won, and I've always wanted to play piano. Is it possible to learn two instruments at once? As I'm getting older, I really just want to be able to boost both instruments, so I can see the fruits of my labor sooner than later. Any tips on staying focused and getting skills? I can not afford lessons and my parents could not when I was little, but I do not want to hold me back longer:) Thank you! Forgot to mention that the keyboard I won is a learning system that comes with DVD and stuff to teach me as well. I'm excited! motivated Staying may be hard But I'll have to work on it. Thanks Sarah!

This is a really big issue and I'm glad there are still people out there motivated to learn / teach themselves instruments! First and foremost learn two instruments is not hard at all. It just takes some dedication and practice. If you love music, (which it looks like you do from all the singing / songwriting), it will be no problem:) If anything, both instruments will learn to make you even better at them both at the same time if it makes sense. Your piano playing will help your guitar and your guitar playing will help your piano playing. I would recommend a great website to help beginners with everything you can think of and it is completely free. Believe me, it is an excellent website. (I'm not advertising or anything btw xD) For piano I also teach himself piano, and it is a blast. It is a very good foundation for even your guitar playing, singing and songwriting. It will help you improve in all musical areas! Bottom line is, keep the motivation to do something you love, writes music and songs you are learning and just having a great time! Have a lovely 30th birthday of what a milestone haha! Hope I helped. Btw, guitar website is: www.justinguitar.com (If your niece can not teach you anything, or what.)

The first step in learning the guitar is to determine your skill level. Beginners and intermediates should find a resource designed for them, and leave advanced guitar lessons for later as they become more proficient. It is wise to start with something designed for your skill level, which makes guitar instruction more fun. Click Here For A Learn To Play Guitar Product Review
