You will soon find out that there is much more to use the whammy bar than just hitting a note and press down! Learn Guitar Software Free Download Here's how you use your tremolo arm to create the sounds you want.
Tremolo arms can be used to create a series of sounds in music:
- Vibrato, when they are pulled up and down
- Pitch bend when pulled and held in one direction
- Portamento when your whammy bar used to slide between pitches
To make a downward pitch bend with your whammy bar:
- Bend a Note down the fret board
- Point your whammy bar directly against the principal
- Play the note and then gently slide the bar down towards the body of the guitar.
To make an upward pitch bend with your tremolo arm:
- Bending a note on the fret board up.
- If you have a Fender or Bigsby bridge point whammy bar down toward the bottom of your guitar (away from the head). Then play the note, and gently push down on the whammy bar
- If you have a floating bridge, let your whammy bar, point to a comfortable angle, and pull up on the bar.
To play a vibrato note with your tremolo arm, you must have an electrical guitar with a floating bridge. Some types of guitars (with Fender style or Bigsby style bridges) will be destroyed by pulling up on the whammy bar.
