guitar nut lube

Can you use personal lubricants to clean your guitar strings?

I wondered if I could use some personal lubricant to clean my guitar strings or guitar nuts. I'm curious to see if it works or damage the guitar.

About the only thing it will do is make your guitar sticky. Depending on your finish and lubricant, you may get some spotting. The best to clean your strings are WD-40 on a cloth. Spray it on the rag, not the strings, place half of it under the strings, fold the other half over the top, and move up and down the strings. You get a fair amount of gunk from your strings if you have never cleaned them before. You do not really need to clean your nuts, but to put some graphite or graph-all lubricant on it is useful (no, your lubricant does not work here also). Ernie Ball also makes string cleaning wipes, if you like convenience.

The first step in learning the guitar is to determine your skill level. Beginners and intermediates should find a resource designed for them, and leave advanced guitar lessons for later as they become more proficient. It is wise to start with something designed for your skill level, which makes guitar instruction more fun. Click Here For A Learn To Play Guitar Product Review
