Learning Guitar for Dummies (DVD)
This was the first DVD I ever bought on the subject. I I ordered even before I bought my first guitar, so I was a real beginner.
The pace is very slow, but as a beginner, I liked it that way. It helped me feel as if I had the potential to stop. It was very important to me, so I would not give up.
Some may feel pace of this DVD is too slow, but if you're interested in starting slowly … This may be just the right pace for you.
Eventually I began to gather Guitar DVDs and I have now over 20, but this was one that held my interest long enough to make it past the wheel learning stages.
This DVD is great for people who have little or no experience playing guitar and want to begin without investing in private lessons (private lessons are a good idea if you could afford them). DVD contains basic such as posture, hand position, a few basic chords and strumming. It even has a very basic introduction to finger-style (playing with your fingers instead of a pick).
I had a very basic class for a few years ago, then taught myself Barre chords and a pair of scales. I has recently invested in a good mid-range guitar (Martin DC-16 GTE), so I picked up this DVD as a refresher course. I found myself jumping to chapter 8 before I came to everything I had not learned yet. So the title "Learning Guitar for Dummies" is apt. It is great for beginners as a complement to private lessons. For intermediate players who want to build skills such as finger style, chords Barre, scales and improvisation, etc, you will need something a little more advanced than this. I found myself more bored and drooling over Taylor 814 CE, he played than focusing on really basic concepts he presents.
Other disadvantages of video: 1) his song is terrible 2) he does not move so basic as to select and change the strings or any accessories that are useful even for beginners (ie string rolls materials for cleaning and maintenance of the instrument, like a lint-free cloth, a humidifier, etc). 3) in the video he does not always follow the suggested fingering shown in the table on screen (ie on a couple of the songs he plays a G chord with 1.2 and four fingers instead of 1,2,3 as shown in the chart-I also prefer 1,2,4 fingering, but it can be confusing to some beginners). Other than that it is a good introductory video for the beginner.
I used to take guitar lessons because I was around 15 years old. Learned some basic cords and can play a few songs. I had not picked up guitar in many years. My 12 year old daughter decided to learn to play guitar then i got my old guitar out and started playing again. I ordered this DVD Learning Guitar for Dummies by Jon Chappell and found that it is an excellent first lesson for beginners guitarist. Not only did I learn some things I do not know, but my daughter overheard the entire DVD with her guitar. Jon has a great way to explain things slowly and easily. I would recommend this DVD for any beginner guitar player. Even if you do not know anything about guitar, you will by the end of this DVD. I had also ordered a second guitar learning DVD and found it to be not nearly as good as this. Two thumbs up for this DVD! The only thing I was disappointed was that I could not find any other DVD put out by Jon Chappell.
My daughter of 8yrs decided that she wanted to learn to play guitar for a few mnths since. Middle of October (last month) we bought her one. Surprised to see how she could manage gnaw she now have lessons in school, unfortunately it seems this yr. alone.
I bought this DVD for her not quite knowing what to expect only Brilliant find this step by step guide, simplified to follow in every way.
DVD zooms in on the guitar itself and the positioning of fingers on tape and so on right side of the screen wire Mr. Chappell play again indicates the location of the fingers should be.
To have had no prior experience at all our subsidiaries have found this DVD very informative and easy to follow, like her father, only able to follow correctly their ninth out of 10 chapters, when "Fingerpicking" was introduced.
This DVD is aimed at any particular age group only beginners of all ages. Mr. Chappell experience and honesty shines through as he repeatedly states you will not beable to play overnight this practice is a must all the things beginners need to hear.
I can not praise this DVD enough it hss to be one of the best if not the best DVD and an invaluable help with guitar playing whatever type of guitar you choose to play.
If you are looking for a beginners guide to learning to play guitar I can not recommend this one too high. You will not regret this purchase!.
I bought Guitar For Dummies book, because I got my guitar. I work my way through the book, so thought this DVD would help – I have not gone to one instructor (yet). It is not as deep as the book (there are simply not enough DVD space), but is very useful to actually see strumming and finger techniques Chapel uses.
I would recommend that you purchase the book with this DVD, that way you can continue to make progress when you have gone DVD Lessons.
I bought a number of various "teach yourself" tools on a black media to get me started on guitar and it is certainly top of the bunch. Unlike many other DVD this school the learner in exactly the same way as a (very expensive) private tutor would. The user time on teaching not only the fundamental tones, but also different ways of strumming and finger picking (I found that, the other books, CDs and PC CDROM tendency to ignore the right hand).
DVD develops with a constant speed and makes it possible for student to stop and achieve competence in one area before moving on, and unlike some of the private music tutors that you could rent from your local paper this guy actually knows what he is doing. He can play and learn!
I can not say enough good things about this DVD – it does exactly what it says on the cover!

Let's face it, really learning guitar can seem like a daunting task. There are so many different things to learn and practice. What you really seek is of high quality, step-by-step video instruction that takes you from beginner (or intermediate) all the way through advanced instruction. , It costs less – guitar lessons on dvd or guitar lessons from a personal learning?
Guitar lessons on DVD is much cheaper than in studio guitar lessons with a teacher. Most trainers charge $ 25 – $ 50 for a private lesson. When I taught private guitar lessons to my space was $ 30 for an hour's lesson! For $ 29.95 you can get over 9 hours of guitar instruction on four DVDs plus extra DVD that has over 165,000 tabs on it! These DVDs are a great way to learn to play guitar. You can take over 18 guitar lessons on DVD for the price of one guitar lesson with a teacher. Plus, with teaching on DVD, you need something gas money commuting to your guitar teacher. Also, you can play the lessons over and over again instead of remembering everything the teacher taught that weeks.
