Guitar scales from the beginning?

I’ve been playing electric guitar for around 3 years as a hobby, and I’ve got to the point where I think I should start thinking about scales? I usually play heavy metal (Priest, Maiden, Metallica, etc) and was wondering what are the best scales to begin learning? Major, minor, harmonic, melodic, pentatonic, there’s so many to pick from. Any recommendations and tips for making this task easier?
