What are some ways to troubleshoot a Fuzz Face Guitar Pedal?

I built a Fuzz Face Guitar Pedal past the bottom. I followed all directions, and have all the pieces needed (ex. resistors, transistors, capacitors, etc.), but when put together, the sound does not go through. It just comes out all friable and in half the amount it should. All potentiometers are set properly, and everything is in place, like my returns showed. What can I do to obtain a fuzz sound?

Make sure your solder connections are good and that the pots are not grounding out to the proceedings.
