I want to learn to play bass should I sell my Taylor and buy a bass and amplifier?

Greetings, This question is for the learned musicians out there. A few years ago I played guitar live at least twice a week, so I bought a Taylor 310 30th Anniversary accostic guitar. It's been a fantastic guitar, but I started playing less and less and eventually almost all. Recently, some opportunities arose to play bass with some friends. I am a bass novist but wishes To learn more, but I do not own a bass. My dilemna is should I sell my Taylor which I hardly ever use and if so, what do you think I could get for it? I paid $ 1300 four years ago. And also, what is a good bass to learn on, but also play live with? Thanks everyone

hmm .. that there is a quagmire what I would recommend is if you have a hundred pounds / euro / dollar / yen lying around, buy a cheap and cheerful bass starter kit, Theyre not expensive compared to your Taylor and you can get an understanding of it without spending hundreds and hundreds of pounds (or whatever) and realize you dont like it! It also means that you can get your your guitar and bass, which is always nice. Then, when you become a better bass player you can sell and upgrade to a more classy bass (the Gibson Thunderbird is an excellent bass, looks very nice too!)
